An illustrated summary of the key findings from the research project ‘Advancing Food Sovereignty in the Manawatū Region,’ a collaboration between Environment Network Manawatū and Dr Chrissy Severinsen and Dr Angelique Reweti from Massey University.

Rethinking Kai is a creative resource developed through a collaborative research project exploring food sovereignty in the Manawatū region.

Drawing on both academic literature and insights from local communities and organisations, the project aimed to translate complex ideas around food systems, sustainability, and wellbeing into an engaging and accessible format.

This comic book was created to support conversations about how we can rethink our relationship with kai, strengthen local food resilience, and imagine more sustainable and culturally grounded food futures together.
