Extinction Rebellion Manawatū

Extinction Rebellion Manawatū (XR) is a local group that formed in 2019 as part of the worldwide movement alerting people to the climate crisis. Extinction Rebellion uses NVDA (non-violent direct action) to put pressure on local and central government to take urgent action on climate change.

Many individuals have been trying to live more lightly on the earth but in spite of that climate change is increasing rapidly. XR wants local and central government to:

• tell people how acute the situation is

• take urgent action now towards being net zero carbon

• use citizens' assemblies to assist their decision-making for fundamental changes in economic, social and environmental systems to maximise well-being and minimise harm in the face of a rapid climate change and the threat of mass extinction

• make the Manawatū (and Aotearoa New Zealand) net zero carbon

Regular Activities: #Fridaysforfuture every first Friday of the month from 11am - 1pm. Meet at Te Marae o Hine, The Square, next to the Palmerston North City Council building, for climate justice visibility, conversation and information.

Presentations about climate change and what to do about this have been given publicly at times, and also to groups who request it.
